SEDATION DENTISTRY in TULSA, OK
Relax During Your Dental
Treatments with Dr. Hanna

We offer a variety of sedation options. Many of our patients request Nitrous oxide gas (laughing gas) for small procedures like cleanings as well as extensive procedures like extractions. For our more anxious patients, we offer oral sedation medication that can be prescribed in advance and taken the evening before and the morning of your procedure. Due to the relaxing effects, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

ORAL SEDATION – TULSA, OK

Relax With No Fear Enjoy
Comfortable Sedation

Sedation is offered to the anxious, the fearful, or the very young patient. It is a management technique that uses medications to assist the patient to cope with fear and anxiety. Sedation is both safe and effective when administered by our trained professionals.

Dr. Mariam Hanna is one of a limited number of general dentists who offer sedation and can complete most or all of your dentistry, including dental implants and cosmetic procedures while you are sedated. Due to the relaxing effects of the medication, patients must have a friend or family member bring them to our office and return them home after their procedures.

Sedation dentistry in Tulsa OK

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients stay calm and comfortable during dental treatment, and it’s a good fit for people who feel anxious in the chair, have a strong gag reflex, struggle to sit through long appointments, or need several procedures done at once.

The right level of sedation depends on your health history and how involved the treatment is, ranging from light relaxation with nitrous oxide that wears off quickly, to oral sedation that leaves you drowsy and relaxed but still responsive. Because oral sedation lingers in your system, you’ll need a friend or family member to drive you to and from the appointment, and a quick health and medication review beforehand helps keep the process safe.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sedation Dentistry

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Sedation dentistry is considered safe when it’s administered by trained professionals who review your health history and monitor you during treatment. The dosage is tailored to each patient, and lighter options like nitrous oxide wear off within minutes of the procedure ending.

Will I be unconscious during sedation dentistry?

Most dental sedation does not put you to sleep. With nitrous oxide or oral sedation you stay awake and able to respond, just deeply relaxed, and many people simply remember little about the appointment afterward.

What is the difference between nitrous oxide and oral sedation?

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is inhaled during the visit, produces mild relaxation, and wears off almost immediately, so you can usually drive yourself home. Oral sedation is a medication taken before the appointment that creates a deeper, longer-lasting calm and requires someone to drive you.

How long do the effects of oral sedation last?

Oral sedation can leave you feeling drowsy for several hours after the appointment, and the medication may stay in your system for the rest of the day. Most people are advised to rest, avoid driving or operating machinery, and let the effects fully clear before returning to normal activity.

Is sedation dentistry safe for children?

Sedation can be appropriate for young or very anxious children, and mild options like nitrous oxide are commonly used to help them stay calm. A dentist will review the child’s age, health, and the planned treatment to determine the safest approach.
